KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A suspect is in the hospital after a crash following a police chase in Independence.

A spokesperson for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy followed the vehicle after running its plates and confirming it was stolen.

The deputy radioed for nearby agencies to assist in case the suspect tried to flee.

The Independence Police Department’s pursuit policy allowed officers to attempt to stop the vehicle, according to JCSO.

As the suspect attempted to flee law enforcement, she lost control of the car and crashed.

JCSO said the driver had a felony out-of-state warrant from Kansas.

She was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries she suffered in the crash.

The chase happened sometime before 3 p.m. Thursday and ended near East Truman Road and South Crescent Avenue.
