KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Two people were shot in an exchange of gunfire Thursday in the parking lot of a Burger King in the 7700 block of State Avenue.
The incident happened around 8:15 p.m.
One person was shot in the thumb and another was shot in the chest. The second person is in critical condition, according to a tweet from KCK Police Chief Terry Ziegler.

Police are investigating if the double shooting was robbery gone wrong. The two shooting victims were in the parking lot for an exchange unrelated to the restaurant.
The person shot in the thumb remained at the scene and was speaking with detectives.
The person shot in the chest was transported by private vehicle to Providence Medical Center then transferred to the University of Kansas Hospital, where he's in stable condition.
