Without any warning, Regency Beauty Institute and ITT Tech closed this month. Students who invested their time and money were suddenly stunned.
Kansas City Better Business Bureau Manager, Aaron Reese explained there are no guarantees to avoid choosing a school that could close; but there are some steps consumers can take to minimize the risk.
Reese said the first step is checking to see if the school is accredited through the appropriate organization. Then check the school's website and make sure there is a mission statement and information about staff.
"Talk with former students and determine if the school you're considering has a good reputation in the community," Reese explained.
The Missouri Attorney General's Consumer Protection Office encouraged Regency Beauty Institute students and staff to file a complaint. The AG's office will investigate to determine if the can find a remedy. The hotline number is 800-392-8222. Consumer complaints can be filed online here.
