KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A local organization is stepping up to help people in several locations across the Kansas City metropolitan area find free rides to the polls on Election Day through an Uber-like app.

Community Creating Opportunity teamed up with an app developer to create "Election Riders," which will offer the rides in five KC area codes: 64109, 64127, 64128, 64130, and 64132.

"These are CCO's focus areas, the city's low life-expectancy zip codes, places deeply affected by poverty," the organization said in a press release.

The app will be available to download on Nov. 1.

People will then be able to request rides on Nov. 3 through the app or by calling the organization at 816-221-0556.

"Many residents in our low life-expectancy zip codes have very limited transportation options," Community Creating Opportunity Communications Director Garrett S. Griffin said. "Poverty is a serious barrier to democratic participation in Kansas City and society at large, so we wanted to do something about it."
