KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas Republicans have chosen a replacement for state Sen. Julia Lynn on the Nov. 3 ballot.

GOP precinct committee leaders in District 9 selected Beverly Gossage as their choice to run against Democrat Stacey Knoell for the Kansas Senate seat.

Lynn, an Olathe senator, asked to have her name removed from the ballot earlier this month, citing the need to care for her sister, who is in declining health.

Though the Kansas secretary of state initially denied her request, a Shawnee County judge later ordered the office to allow Lynn to withdraw, saying she had submitted the necessary paperwork.

Last week, Gossage said on Facebook that she had submitted herself for consideration as a replacement candidate. She said she planned to “immediately launch an aggressive seven-week campaign” if chosen.

Lynn has represented District 9, which includes De Soto and parts of Gardner, Lenexa and Olathe, since 2007.
