KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas Senator Julia Lynn has requested her name be withdrawn from the November ballot as the Republican nominee for District 9.

Lynn has represented District 9, which includes De Soto and parts of Gardner, Lenexa and Olathe, since 2007.

Her current term is set to end on Jan. 11, 2021

Lynn ran for re-election against Democratic candidate Stacey Knoell.

Tuesday, she announced she wants to withdraw due to personal reasons.

Lynn said she needs to care for her “sister’s severely declining health,” in a Facebook post.

“It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve you. I am eternally grateful for your support and allowing me to serve as your State Senator,” the post read.

A spokesperson for the Johnson County Republican Party said there will be a special election held among the Republican precinct committee members in Lynn's district to select her replacement on the November ballot.
