Nan Borchardt is a registered dietitian with expertise in nutrition counseling for breast cancer patients and survivors, as well as diabetes and cancer prevention.
Borchardt explains that everyone is unique and there is no one-size-fits-all nutrition plan; but the nutrition expert has completed more than 1,800 hours studying nutrition and it's affects on patients before, during and post-treatment. She offers a nutrition and exercise plan designed for each person's body chemistry based on her studies. Borchardt is the Founder and President of Nutrition Werks.
Borchardt provides nutritional counseling that helps breast cancer patients manage their body chemistry to be stronger during chemotherapy and radiation, and improve their recovery as well as reduce their risk of recurrence following treatment.
"One of the big mistakes newly diagnosed patients make is eating excessive amounts of fruit. Too much fruit triggers your body to produce more insulin, and insulin fuels the growth of cancer cells," Borchardt explained.
She explains that exercise and creating a balanced carb-protein ratio is also important to a healthy immune system.
"One of the best cancer prevention foods is red peppers because of the high antioxidant levels," she said.
Borchardt has gained additional training in the area of diabetes education, having become a certified diabetes educator in 1986. She has also maintained intensive ongoing education in the areas of medical nutrition therapy and functional medicine protocols to more adequately support client needs in the area of advanced nutritional supplement concerns.
