KANSAS CITY, Mo. — While many parents in the Kansas City metro are following stay-at-home orders, essential workers still have to leave their homes for work, creating a need for child care.

On Monday, Phenomenal Kids Childcare in Kansas City reopened to fill that need for essential workers.

The center has taken safety precautions, such as meeting families at the door instead of allowing them inside.

The owner says that reopening was worth the risk.

“We’re taking a leap of faith as always,” Phenomenal Kids owner and director Charmaine Harden said. “That’s how we got here in the first place to decide to open up and be here for the families that need us.”

While the facility used to care for around 30 children, only 10 returned on Monday.

The child care center also is making sure to follow guidelines on group limits from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
