NORTH KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Sometimes challenges bring out the best in people.
Knowing several small business have shut their storefronts, Joe Morgan immediately thought of how he could help.
Morgan runs Joe’s Data Center, which operates a web design firm named after the family: Morgansites.
He is now offering to build websites for free for businesses in the greater Kansas City area which have had to shut down due to stay at home orders preventing the spread of COVID-19.
Many of those small businesses don’t have websites allowing them to sell their products online. Morgan wants to give them that option so those businesses don’t have to shut down permanently.
“That’s not good for the employees, that’s not good for the economy, that’s not good for the town, and so we need to keep these places going and we need to keep these businesses open so we have something to return to once we are allowed to go out again,” Morgan explained.
So far, Morgansites has created about five new websites. It’s working on one for a toy store now. Plus, it’s added online ordering to the websites of restaurants it currently manages.
Morgansites will host the website for free for at least two months, or as long a the pandemic lasts. Afterward, companies can pay a monthly fee to keep the website running, or take their domain name and run the website on their own without ever paying a dime.
“The community has been great to us. This business only exists because of these small businesses, it’s been our bread and butter, it’s what allowed me to open this business. So this is a way for us to give back and that’s really all there is to it,” Morgan said.
