KANSAS CITY, Mo. — First Baptist Church in Lee's Summit donated $22,000 to Lee's Summit Social Services this week.
Lee's Summit Social Services is anticipating an increase in weekly grocery, utility and rent assistance needs. The donation will go toward filling those needs.
“This generous donation will allow us to continue to serve our communities, in spite of so many obstacles that we face during this time,” LSSS Executive Director Matt Sanning said in a release. “The collaboration they have shown truly shows the resolve that we all know will be the one factor that will make a time like this be remembered as a time where good people did great things. We will continue our support of the community and the organizations are going to be the tip of the spear in each of our efforts.”
The funds came from an offering collected through virtual church services which totaled to $44,000.
The other half of the offering will go to employees of downtown Lee's Summit whose paychecks have been affected by stay-at-home orders. The donations will be distributed as $100 Hy-Vee gift cards.
We've created a Facebook group, We're Open Kansas City, where members of the community can post businesses serving their community.
