UPDATE, Jan. 4 | The driver killed was identified as 35-year-old David M. Ronkoski of the Kansas City area.
ORIGINAL STORY, Dec. 31 | Independence police are investigating a crash that killed one person and seriously injured another.
According to police, the crash happened around 8:30 a.m. Thursday at 31st Street and Blue Ridge Boulevard.
Investigation revealed the driver of a 1999 Toyota Rav4 was headed east on 31st Street and failed to stop at a stop sign when it struck a 2008 GMC Sierra.
The driver of the GMC died at the hospital. They were not wearing a seatbelt and have not been identified.
The driver of the Toyota went to the hospital with minor injuries.
