KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person died Wednesday afternoon after the SUV overturned on the northbound lane of U.S. 71 Highway at Blue River Road in Kansas City, Missouri.
The driver of a Chevrolet Trailblazer was driving at a high rate of speed in the No. 3 lane at Northbound U.S. 71, according to a KCMO crash report.
The Trailblazer sideswiped a GMC Yukon next to it on the highway, according to police report.
The Yukon was stopped because of the heavy traffic congestion on the highway.
Police said the Trailblazer ran into the back of a silver Jaguar XF stopped in front of the GMC Yukon.
The Trailblazer rolled over and the driver, not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle, according to police.
The driver died at the scene.
A child was restrained in a car seat in the back of the Trailblazer and was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
The other two drivers refused medical treatment at the accident scene.
The northbound lanes of U.S. 71 Highway near Bannister Road were closed for about two-and-a-half hours.
