KANSAS CITY, Mo. — `One person suffered critical injuries about 7 p.m. Tuesday in a traffic crash near the Truman Sports Complex.

The incident began when the driver of a GMC Envoy struck a car on southbound Interstate 435 near East 23rd Street, police said.

The 59-year-old Independence man driving the SUV continued speeding south on I-435.

He lost control of the SUV and shot across three lanes of the interstate, police said.

No vehicles were hit as the SUV slammed into a guardrail and flipped several times.

The driver was ejected from the car.

Dozens of police officers and investigators were on the scene at 7:30 p.m.

I-435 at Interstate 70 was closed for more than an hour.

Officers reopened the highway by 9 p.m.
