Child suffers life-threatening injuries in KCMO shooting

UPDATE, April 1 | The child is reportedly in stable condition. Police have announced that the child shot was a little girl. They did not release any further details.

UPDATE, 9 p.m. | Kansas City, Missouri, police said the victim in the shooting is a child under 10 years old.

An off-duty officer in the area "reported seeing someone firing shots from a moving vehicle towards another moving vehicle on Truman Road" around 7:30 p.m., according to police.

The officer requested more officers be dispatched to the area, where a crime scene was located.

At the same time, police received a call from a person in one of the vehicles who said that "someone inside had been shot," according to police.

Independence, Missouri, police located the vehicle with the victim within their city limits.

The child was transported to an area hospital in critical condition, according to police.

The shooting occurred around 8 p.m. at East Truman Road and Winchester Avenue.
