KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two people died in a crash Tuesday morning at East 18th Street and Brooklyn Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri, police said

Around 9:15 a.m., a Honda Pilot was driving eastbound on 18th Street, traveling at 60 to 80 mph. The SUV ran a stop sign and hit a red Chevrolet Monte Carlo that was northbound on Brooklyn, police said.

The impact caused the Monte Carlo to crash into a Ford Fusion that was stopped at the stop sign on 18th Street, police said.

A man and a woman who were in the Monte Carlo car died, police said. They were in their 50s and 60s.

Police later identified them as 54-year-old Judith Morris and 54-year-old Virgil Dixon, both of Kansas City, Missouri.

KCPD said the man driving the Honda Pilot got out of the vehicle and started running, but officers were able to catch him and take him into custody.

The man "complained of minor injuries," police said.

The driver of the Ford Fusion was not injured.

An investigation revealed that the Honda Pilot was stolen out of Independence, according to Kansas City police.

Editor's note: Police initially said the crash happened near 18th and Highland, but have since said the correct location is 18th and Brooklyn.
