KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Three adults and one child have been displaced following a fire Saturday afternoon at an Overland Park duplex.
Crews responded around 3 p.m. to the 9100 block of West 83rd Street, where “significant fire” was showing upon arrival, according to OPFD.
The fire was extinguished in about 45 minutes, OPFD said, and caused “significant fire and smoke damage throughout the structure.”
“Neighbors tell fire investigators that the occupants had a recreational fire pit burning on a wooden deck at the duplex and they noticed soon after the deck was on fire,” OPFD said in a news release.
While investigators, according to the release, believe the fire pit caused the structure fire, an official cause has not been determined.
The Red Cross will assist the individuals who have been displaced.
One cat was killed in the blaze.
