UPDATE: OCT, 13. | A spokesperson for Union Pacific told 41 Action News the four individuals in this crash were in fact crossing a private railroad crossing.
According to the spokesperson there were stop signs located on both sides of the crossing.
"This tragic accident underscores the importance of exercising caution when traversing over any railroad crossing. Union Pacific's thoughts are with the families of those who were involved in this tragic accident," the spokesperson said.
ORIGINAL STORY: Oct, 10. | Three men are dead and one in critical condition after a train and vehicle crash Saturday night in Johnson County, Kansas.
Johnson County, Kansas, sheriff's deputies responded to a dispatch call around 6:37 p.m. in the area of 166th Street and Mission Road for a train v. car crash.
The train tracks were at an "uncontrolled private property crossing," according to the sheriff's office, and the crossing did not have the "typical warnings" like lights and crossing bar signals that would be seen at a public crossing.
The sheriff's office later identified the three deceased men as Troy Hamlin, 40, of Overland Park; Brent Moroney, 37, of Overland Park; and Kevin Corbin, 40, of Stilwell.
Only one vehicle was involved in the crash.
No injuries were reported to anyone on the train.
The train will be stopped for another few hours, according to the sheriff's office.
There is no additional information at this time about the four men involved in the crash or the vehicle itself.
