KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Three people were killed in metro-area crashes over the weekend.

A man died and two women were injured, one seriously, in a Bates County crash Sunday morning.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report says a Pontiac Grand Prix was merging onto Interstate 49 south of Route E and struck a Ford F-350 in the process. The Ford spun out of control and crashed into the median.

The driver of a third car, a GMC Sierra, tried to avoid the wreck and drove into the median, also striking the F-350.

Gerald Gilliland, 74, was ejected from the Sierra. He was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the crash report.

In Platte County, a 79-year-old Raymore woman died in a crash Sunday afternoon on Route N at Jones Myer Road.

Frances Armstrong’s car travelled off the road and struck an embankment before overturning several times and coming to a rest on its wheels.

The MSHP crash report says Armstrong was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

A Missouri man died on I-35 in Johnson County, Kansas.

A crash report from the Kansas Highway Patrol says  51-year-old Abraham Jansen Van Rensburg was northbound on the interstate when his vehicle left the road for an unknown reason Sunday afternoon.

Troopers reported the car veered to the right and collided with a bridge pillar about a mile north of 135th Street.

Van Rensburg was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the crash report.
