KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 3-year-old girl was killed by a truck backing out of a driveway Wednesday morning.
The deadly accident happened at 10:47 a.m. in the 39000 block of West 287th Street in rural Paola, the Miami County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday evening.
A 2019 GMC delivery box truck driven by a man was backing out of a driveway at that location when it struck the child, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
First responders from the Wellsville Fire Department and Miami County Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene.
The Miami County Sheriff’s Office said it was an accident: “There appears to be no criminal intent and no drugs or alcohol involved.”
The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident along with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and Kansas Highway Patrol.
