KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Four people were injured in a single-vehicle crash Saturday evening on westbound Interstate 70.

According to the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department, a white Jeep Grand Cherokee was weaving through traffic at high speeds on westbound I-70.

After driving across all three lanes and attempting to take the exit ramp onto 31st Street, the driver lost control of the vehicle at the start of the ramp, police say.

The Jeep drove off the side of the road and flipped over the embankment several times, crashing into a large tree.

Police say that nobody in the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt, and two adults were ejected from the vehicle.

Two adults remained in the vehicle, as did an infant that was strapped into her car seat, which was not secured to a seat in the vehicle.

The infant was taken to a hospital but did not have apparent injuries.

Three adult passengers were transported to area hospitals with life-threatening, serious and critical injuries.

Police say the driver was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Around 5 p.m. Sunday, police issued an update that the Jackson County Medical Examiner's Office notified KCPD of the death of a passenger due to their injuries.

This marks the 67th fatal traffic accident of 2022 compared to 57 at this time in 2021.
