41 Files: Reporters must find balance between jobs, showing compassion

Posted

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Covering the news can take reporters on fun assignments, but it can also put them in situations where they have to balance gathering the news with showing compassion to people undergoing major life events.

41 Action News reporter Andres Gutierrez was one of a handful of reporters dispatched on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 to cover a series of storms that struck the Kansas City metro area.

In this week’s episode of the 41 Files Podcast, Gutierrez talks about how he performs the balancing act.

Gutierrez says he hopes his stories can help people find hope and the ability to move forward.

Elsewhere in episode 10 of the 41 Files, Jason Kander formally announced he’s running for Kansas City mayor. The move shocked the local political community and left some candidates – including Jolie Justus – wondering how they should move forward.

41 Action News reporter Cat Reid says the move was a huge shock to everyone.

Later, 41 Action News reporter Steven Dial dug deeper on his story from earlier this week from the Crossroads District where some residents are concerned about a proposed 14-story building.
