9 people shot, 2 killed in KC in span of 8 hours

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Nine people were shot and two were killed in Kansas City in a span of eight hours on Wednesday.

Here is what we know about each shooting:

Around 3:30 p.m.: One woman was shot and killed near 50th and Chestnut. Police said there was a disturbance outside a home that involved several people. Eventually, shots were fired and the woman was hit. Officers say they arrested a subject of interest. They are not searching for any more suspects.

Around 4:30 p.m.: Two people were shot near 79th and Brooklyn. One person suffered critical injuries. The second victim is expected to survive. Police have not arrested any suspects.

Around 4:45 p.m.: One person suffered non-life threatening injuries in a shooting near 89th and Sleepy Hollow Drive.

Around 7:30 p.m.: Three people were shot in south Kansas City near Monroe and Bridge Manor Drive. One of those victims, a man, has died. Another is in critical condition. The third victim had non-life-threatening injuries. Police said there were multiple crime scenes in the area. Officers have detained a person of interest.

Around 10 p.m.: Two people were shot in the 400 block of Lawndale. Police said an adult and a juvenile were outside a residence when unknown suspects fired shots at them. Both victims were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No suspects are in custody.

"It's really unfortunate," said Sgt. Jake Becchina of KCPD. "We want people to end conflicts peacefully and not use guns or other violence. They need to use words. That's what we want."
