Kansas City Police say eight teens were riding in a car that was traveling south at a high rate of speed on the Paseo. Authorities say that just before 3 a.m., the driver lost control, went across the grassy median to the northbound lanes, and crashed into a tree on the east side of the Paseo near East 58th Street.

One passenger suffered critical injuries, one suffered serious injuries and four had non life-threatening injuries. Those six were transported to the hospital.

The driver and one additional passenger had no complaints of injury.
