KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Sunday is August 16, 2020. But in Kansas City, it's known as "816 Day" -- a day to celebrate all things KC.
In 2018, then-Kansas City, Missouri, Mayor Sly James signed a resolution to celebrate the city's holiday, named after its area code and the day it takes place.
Many small businesses are offering deals in honor of the day. This comes at a time when some locally owned stores are struggling because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Modern Man Supply Company, a store new to the River Market area, sells T-shirts, men's grooming products and more. They moved to the area almost two months ago.
They are participating in the holiday in hopes of bringing more traffic to their store.
"The days where we have people in that just kind of come to hang out and talk and stuff like that, to me those are the best days of the store," said Josh Wilson, of Modern Man Supply Co., "because it's a small sliver of getting back to normal.
The 18th and Vine District also is celebrating the day with various activities.
