KANSAS CITY, Mo. — After calls from the community to remove the Andrew Jackson statue at the Jackson County Courthouse led to the statue being vandalized and covered by a tarp, the county executive approved a cleaning of the statue.

The tarp has been covered since June 25, but it was cleaned and uncovered on Thursday after approval from Jackson County Executive Frank White Jr.

“As the chief elected official responsible for County property, I authorized that the statue be cleaned. That process was completed today, and the statue will remain uncovered until necessary,” White said in a news release.

Back in July, the Jackson County Legislature voted to leave the fate of the statue in the hands of voters.

“The voters will decide the fate of the statues at our courthouses in November,” White added.
