More than 130 blighted homes are up for sale in Kansas City for less than a cup of coffee.

But buyers beware-- the deals could cost you thousands of dollars to rehab and the deadline is swiftly approaching.

All applications are due by Friday, April 1.

According to Ted Anderson, executive director of the Land Bank of Kansas City, only 37 applications have been properly completed. There are about 100 applications that are incomplete.

Applicants must pass a background check and show the Land Bank they can match the city's $8,500 contribution toward renovating a home.

Most of the homes will need new electrical wiring, heating, cooling, floors and roofs. The city says owners could spend nearly $40,000 to get homes up to code.

All buyers have one year to make the homes livable.
