KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Arrowhead Stadium played host Tuesday to a voter registration and food distribution event that drew thousands, furthering the Kansas City Chiefs' mission of urging involvement in the political process.

“Your voice matters, and we want to have a voice to our laws and who's advocating for us out here in the community,” said Deann Snider, a voter registration organizer. “To have Tyrann Mathieu and Patrick Mahomes wanting to be out here to connect to this community just shows how much they love Kansas City."

While Mathieu and Mahomes were not at Tuesday's event, they have both advocated for registering to vote and been involved in other registration drives around Kansas City, Missouri.

“People are struggling, they're having to make tough decisions,” said Sarah Biles, communications director with Harvesters Community Food Network.

The group estimated that they provided meals to nearly 2,000 families.

“We're getting ready to head into winter," she said. "Utility bills are probably going to be high."

Biles said Harvesters has distributed close to 40 million meals since the apex of the coronavirus pandemic.
