KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The man accused of killing one person and injuring two others at an Olathe bar in February pleaded not guilty on three charges Thursday.
Adam Purinton is charged with one count of premeditated first-degree murder and two counts attempted first-degree murder. He pleaded not guilty on all three charges and waived his preliminary hearing Thursday.
He's scheduled to be back in Johnson County court May 8 for a scheduling conference. He remains in jail on a $2 million bond.
Purinton is accused of confronting two Indian men, Srinivas Kuchibhotla and Alok Madasani, at Austin's Bar & Grill in Olathe. According to court documents, Madasani told investigators that Purinton asked if he and Kuchibhotla's "status was legal."
Eventually, he was kicked out, but Purinton reportedly came back a half-hour later with a gun.
Kuchibhotla was shot three times and killed.
Madasani was shot and hurt along with Ian Grillot, a Good Samaritan at the bar who tried to stop Purinton.
