Suspect killed in police shooting in Kansas City, Missouri

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department said there was a police shooting Thursday night in the 1800 block of West Pennway.

Around 11:20 p.m., KCPD received a 911 call of a disturbance involving a male with a gun firing shots, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

When officers arrived, the suspect fired shots inside a residence.

And with officers present, the suspect allegedly fired within proximity of the officers. The officers returned fire, but the suspect was not struck.

Additional officers began to respond, including SWAT.

Negotiations were underway for the suspect to surrender when he again fired shots at the officers. Officers returned fire and struck him outside the house.

The suspect, identified as Tyrone L. Payne, 40, of KCMO, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No officers were injured.

MSHP is conducting the investigation.
