Authorities are searching for a man who robbed a bank in Raymore on Monday afternoon.

The robbery took place at the UMB Bank located at 315 South Dean St., according to an FBI spokeswoman.

Officials say he also robbed a nearby Sally's Beauty Supply store.  At the store he demanded money and one of the employee’s keys at gunpoint.

“High noon in Raymore on a weekday, that’s pretty brazen,” Chief Jan Zimmerman with the Raymore Police Department said.

The suspect drove the employee’s gold Astro van across the street to the UMB bank. According to authorities, the man showed a weapon at the time of the robbery and left with an undetermined amount of cash.

No injuries were reported.

He then decided to go the Lowe’s just a few hundred yards away where police say he dumped the van, his clothes and gun, which prompted a manhunt Monday afternoon.

“There is considerable woods and pasture land, there are neighborhoods both to the south and the east, it would be fairly easy to hide and blend in if he’s still on foot,” Zimmerman said.

The suspect is described as a white man about six feet tall with short hair and a mustache. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a gray suit.

“Usually the big news around here is speeding tickets down the street, that’s about it,” Scott Kranz, who lives in the neighborhood, said.

Police want residents to take extra precautions as the search continues.

“People move to the suburbs thinking it’ll be a little bit more safer, and the crime just follows you,” Kranz said.

If you recognize the suspect, call Raymore police at 816-331-0530.
