Two men and a woman have been charged with Wednesday's bank robbery in Stilwell, Kansas.
The crime led multiple police departments on a chase through the area, and the group fired at police officers during the pursuit. They were traveling with a 19-month-old child in their escape vehicle.
Jacob L. Smith,18, Gary Jordan, 39, and Danille Morris, 26, all of Kansas City, Kansas, face charges of bank robbery and brandishing firearms during the robbery, which took place at Stilwell's First National Bank.
According to a news release from the office of U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom, Morris cased the bank and then waited in the getaway vehicle with her daughter while Smith and Jordan entered and threatened tellers with guns. The robbers fled the scene with a cash-stuffed backpack and led police on a 25-minute chase.
During the chase, Smith fired at officers from the vehicle. The shots struck a patrol car, but no one was injured.
The chase ended when the robbers' getaway vehicle rolled over at a sharp turn, and the three adults in the vehicle were arrested.
If convicted, they may face up to 25 years and a fine of up to $250,000 for the robbery charge; the brandishing charge carries a minimum penalty of seven years and a maximum of life in prison.
