OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Wayne Cozak owned Wayne's Barbershop in downtown Overland Park for 64 years.

In July 2017, Cozak hung up his clippers and announced his retirement.

Now, a new barbershop, called Herringbone sits there. Herringbone's grand opening was Monday morning.

And at 8 a.m., the new shop had its first client; none other than Wayne Cozak.

“Whatever your favorite haircut is, just give it to me,” Cozak said to the new owner, Marc Males.

"I felt a little nervous,” Males said. “He's been doing it a little longer than I have but I was pretty excited and very honored to cut his hair.”

“It feels really special because I can tell how much he really cares about the industry and the shop that we're in,” Herringbone stylist, Simon Jackson said of Cozak. “I'm excited that he's excited.”

Cozak shared memories and laughs with the new employees of Herringbone.

“I cut over 200,000 head of hair,” Cozak said. “I think about when I first started here and it's kind of nostalgic to come back here to be the first person after working here 65 years, that's everyday.”

Cozak says he's excited for the new owners and Herringbone's grand opening.
