Bicyclist dies after June 5 crash involving SUV, KCPD says

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A bicyclist died this week after a June 5 crash involving an SUV, according to Kansas City, Missouri, police.

Police said they confirmed Monday that Anthony Nelson, 46, died from injuries sustained in the crash, which occurred at Swope Parkway and Euclid Avenue.

According to the initial crash report, a Range Rover was traveling westbound on Swope Parkway after exiting U.S. 71 northbound. As the driver was passing Euclid Avenue, a man on a blue bicycle crossed Swope Parkway in front of the vehicle.

Police said Nelson was inside the crosswalk but crossing against the traffic light.

The Range Rover hit Nelson, who struck his head in the crash. He was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries.

The driver of the Range Rover was not injured in the collision.

Police said Nelson’s death is the 38th traffic-related fatality in the city so far this year, compared with 28 deadly crashes at this time last year.
