KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A suspect wanted in an ongoing drug investigation is in custody, but not before leading authorities on a bi-state crime spree.
A Drug Enforcement Administration spokesperson said that early Friday afternoon, DEA agents and other area agencies were engaged in an ongoing drug investigation.
When authorities attempted to stop and identify a suspect involved in the investigation, the suspect fled.
Officers from Kansas City, Missouri, initially chased the suspect, but then stopped their pursuit.
Using an “aerial surveillance platform,” DEA agents tracked the suspect into Kansas City, Kansas, where a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper spotted the suspect and pulled the car over.
The suspect initially pulled over as additional authorities arrived on scene. The suspect’s cooperation was short-lived, as the suspect started to flee, striking several patrol cars and almost hitting a DEA agent. The agent opened fire on the suspect, who continued to flee.
The suspect crashed into a parked car along Southwest Boulevard at Washington Street in Kansas City, Missouri. He was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital.
It was not clear if the suspect’s injuries were from the shooting or the crash.
The DEA spokesperson said once released from the hospital, the suspect would be taken into federal custody.
