KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Middle and high school students in Blue Valley Schools will return to the classroom next month.
The Blue Valley Schools Board of Education voted, 6-1, Monday to bring those students back into buildings for the fourth quarter, which begins March 23.
However, the shift will only occur if the district remains in green or yellow gating criteria. At the green level, the two-week county positivity rate would be less than 5%, with no more than 50 new cases over that two-week period and a decreasing rate of cases. In the yellow level, the two-week county positivity rate would be between 5.1% and 9.9%, with no more than 100 new cases and the county positivity rate remaining stable.
Voluntary COVID-19 tests will be available for students and staff.
Staff began receiving the first dose of COVID-19 vaccines on Feb. 4, and will continue through March 4. Second doses are expected to be administered between Feb. 25 and March 18.
Vaccination is not required, but 991 staff members already have received the first dose.
