GRANDVIEW, Mo. -- Police say the suspicious death of a 27-year-old woman found burned near a Grandview dumpster Sunday night is officially part of a homicide investigation.

Police were called to the Arbors of Grandview apartments on E 119th St. just after 9:30 p.m. Sunday. When police arrived, they found a woman's body on fire. They extinguished the fire and closed off the area to investigate.

The victim has been identified as Lynnette Williams of Grandview. Her family started a GoFundMeto pay for her funeral expenses and to care for her young son, Saint.

A witness who didn't want to be identified told 41 Action News nightmares about the crime scene kept her from sleeping Sunday night.

"That's an image I'll never be able to erase out of my mind being a mother myself, same age," the woman said.

A person of interest in the case was in custody Monday, police said, but the department provided no information regarding the person's potential involvement.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Grandview Police Department or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
