KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Buckner man was killed when the tanker he was driving crashed on Interstate 470 in Topeka on Friday.
According to the crash report, the tanker was traveling east on I-470 when it traveled onto the shoulder of the interstate, collided with the barrier wall and proceeded into the ditch where it collided with a tree.
The tanker then caught fire.
Johnnie Odell, 50, of Buckner was driving the tanker and was killed in the crash.
No one else was injured.
Investigators do not know why the tanker swerved off of the road.
