KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- It's been a long-empty lot along Johnson Drive, but now celebrity chef Tom Colicchio is cooking up a solution.

The "Top Chef" host plans to develop a 40,000 square foot food hall at the Mission Gateway development near Johnson Drive and Shawnee Mission Parkway in Mission, Kansas.

According to a release from the developers, the food hall will "bring together nationally acclaimed chefs and restaurateurs, coupled with local artisanal purveyors. The release also says the food hall will feature a live concert venue and rotating art installation.

Colicchio said in the release, the food hall is, "a lifestyle entertainment destination anchored in chef-driven, culinary experiences with a focus on exceptional but accessible food. We will engage the local community by combining stand-alone restaurants and smaller counters curated by national and local chefs, to encourage social interaction.”

The space will also feature several entertainment offerings. They include ping pong, pool tables, shuffle board and bocce ball.

The food hall is expected to be completed sometime in 2020.
