KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One of the Kansas City area’s largest employers has announced a second round of layoffs in as many months.
Cerner Corp. confirmed Tuesday it will cut 130 positions, including 60 in the Kansas City area.
The company, headquartered in North Kansas City, Missouri, said in a statement that it continues “to identify organizational efficiencies” as part of a new operating model.
“Part of that strategy includes a realignment of resources focused on key growth areas across the company,” Cerner said in the statement.
Despite the recent layoffs, Cerner said it hired more than 4,000 employees this year and plans to hire “hundreds more" in the coming months. Employees impacted by the layoffs will be eligible for those positions, the company said.
Earlier this fall, Cerner laid off 255 employees.
The company has three locations in the Kansas City metro.
