KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Charges in the Christmas Eve murder of a Kansas City man were filed Thursday, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.
Joseph A. Kane, 36, was charged with second degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action in the fatal shooting of Carter McCollum.
The shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. Christmas Eve in the area of 72nd Street and Wabash Avenue.
Police arrived to the area to find McCollum deceased on the ground outside of a vehicle with gunshot wounds.
According to the prosecutor's office, McCollum and Kane were involved in a narcotics deal when the suspect became agitated and shot the victim.
Prosecutors requested Kane be held on a $250,000 cash bond.
