MIAMI — Kansas City Chiefs fans have made downtown Miami their temporary new kingdom, descending on Bayfront Park to kick off Super Bowl weekend celebrations.
“There’s always something happening (with the team). They always try to improve and make it happen, and bring the right people in. A lot going on,” said Shawn Speeding, who lives in Greenwood, Missouri.
He and his wife flew into Miami on Wednesday. They spent the day on Friday at Bayfront Park, where they met other Chiefs fans, like Christopher Selentino.
Selentino and his son, Elio, decided to make the trip down from San Diego. The father-and-son duo have been Chiefs fans forever, collecting clothing and other Chiefs items.
“We have new outfits for every day. Jerseys from players going back to Ed Podolak, who was one of my childhood heroes. Dante Hall, who I am wearing today," Selentino said. "We have all of them, including a vintage Marc Boerigter jersey I’ll be wearing to the game."
Bayfront Park is a free event that includes concerts, live water shows, parades and fireworks.
