KANSAS CITY, Mo. — When the game clock hit all zeroes and the Kansas City Chiefs officially became Super Bowl champions, fans roared in amazement.
It’s a feeling they hadn’t felt in 50 years.
The 31 to 20 victory didn’t seem likely. At one point in the fourth quarter, ESPN’s win probability model gave the 49ers a 95 percent chance of winning the game.
Fans in Kansas City, Missouri, never doubted their team would win because of one reason: Patrick Mahomes.
“We knew [Mahomes] was going to be a champion,” said Isaac, a fan who is originally from Texas, the birthplace of Mahomes. “Who doubted here in Kansas City, who doubted the man?”
Fans say the quarterback is never out of a game. He proved it this postseason, leading the Chiefs to three victories where they trailed by 10 or more points at one time; the first team to ever accomplish the feat, according to Elias Sports Bureau.
“Mahomes is the greatest of all time! Already, he must be the greatest,” a fan at Granfalloon on the Country Club Plaza praised the 24-year-old superstar.
Fans are confident with Mahomes on their team, they will never be out of a game, and they hope he leads the team to many more championships.
