KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It didn’t matter if they had tickets to the big game or not, Kansas City Chiefs fans were boarding flights Friday morning at Kansas City International Airport to get to south Florida in time for the Super Bowl.
Five airlines at KCI added a total of 12 extra, non-stop flights from Kansas City, Missouri, to Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Friday and back to KCI on Monday.
The Chiefs play the San Francisco 49ers Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.
“Who doesn’t want to be out there?” asked Josh, who did not give his last name, before boarding his flight. “It’s definitely been a bucket-list item for me since I’ve been a kid, so we had to make it happen.”
Fans told 41 Action News they wanted to be a part of the team’s first Super Bowl appearance in 50 years.
“We bought our (plane) tickets at halftime of the Houston (playoff) game. When we took the lead, I thought, 'we’re going all the way,'" Billy Ryan said.
And now Chiefs Kingdom is going all the way to Miami.
