KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A child died and four people were injured in a crash Saturday afternoon on Interstate 29.
Missouri State Highway Patrol said in a tweet that two adults and two children in Toyota Prius were stopped in traffic on northbound I-29 near mile marker 19.6 when a Ford Explorer, also traveling north, “struck the Prius from behind.”
The crash occurred as traffic was slowing for construction, according to the MSHP traffic crash report.
An 8-year-old boy was killed, while the other three occupants of the Prius — a 63-year-old man, a 61-year-old woman and a 6-year-old girl — were taken to area hospitals, according to MSHP.
The driver of the Explorer, a 39-year-old woman, also was injured and taken to a hospital.
Two other vehicles were struck, but no other injuries were reported.
