KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Blue Springs couple is accused of abuse after leaving their child with severe disabilities alone for weeks in a house where the couple no longer lived.

Janine Allen, 30, and Brendon Luke, 29, are charged in Jackson County Court with abuse of a child with no sexual contact.

Court documents said police got a call about a 12-year-old boy who uses a wheelchair who was left in a house in the 1300 block of Southeast Eastridge Circle.

Police also were told by the caller that the boy's family had moved out.

An investigation revealed the family indeed had moved to a large, new house about two miles away, leaving the boy in the wheelchair behind.

Janine told police the boy was monitored by a two-way radio and camera doorbell video monitoring system, which sends alerts and notification to the couple's cell phones.

Police and a Children's Division worker told the Lukes that the child should not be left alone in the house.

She told investigators that either she or her husband would stay with the boy at night, according to court documents.

Video evidence revealed the child crying for his mother, saying, "I don't like it in my room," "I want out" and "I don't like this mommy," a court document states.

Janine Luke also told police the child could use the bathroom by himself, but video showed the boy locked in the bedroom and unable to get out to use the bathroom.

She also admitted making it look like someone was at home with the child when no one was, a court document states.
