Brookside post office temporarily closed after safety inspection

Posted

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The front door at the Country Club Station post office in Brookside is temporarily closed. USPS officials blame the results of a safety inspection.

Two and a half weeks after an emergency shutdown of the Country Club Station on Nov. 3, customers and Brookside business owners along 63rd Street want to know when the doors will reopen.

Sandra Neumann owns Brookside Gallery and Framing that just down the sidewalk from the post office.

"I went down there to mail something and the woman had the big chain she was putting around the door and she said this is the last day," said Neumann.

Brookside customers are being redirected to the Waldo post office located at 119 Gregory Street.
Post office officials refused to talk about the shutdown, but released a statement saying:

"As a result of a recent safety inspection at the leased facility, retail and delivery services located at the Country Club Station have been moved to the Waldo Post Office located at 119 Gregory St.  1.1 miles away. There is no time table for reopening at his time. "

Rich Howard normally uses the Brookside location. He said using the Waldo location is an inconvenience.

"It's a pain. It's another mile for me. We use that one fairly frequently. It's close to our house," said Howard.

Anyone who has a post office box at the Brookside location can pick up their mail at the Waldo location.
