KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City, Missouri-based Commerce Bank has “suspended all support for officials who have impeded the peaceful transfer of power.”

A Commerce Bank spokesperson said in a statement to 41 Action News that the company’s employee-funded political-action committee donates to elected officials in both parties “because of their pro-business records” and their interest in helping the banking industry.

“Commerce Bank condemns violence in any form and believes the actions witnessed last week are abhorrent, anti-democratic and entirely contrary to supporting goodwill for Americans and businesses,” the spokesperson said.

Commerce Bank is among businesses, including Hallmark, that have denounced last week’s riot at the U.S. Capitol during the Electoral College vote confirmation.
