KANSAS CITY, Mo. – An Overland Park, Kan. company announced Monday it has purchased the land of the old K-Mart shopping center at 95th and Metcalf.

A release announcing the purchase, which totals nearly 30-acres of land, doesn’t specify any specific plans for future development, but hints that it could be used to build “multiple office towers” on the site.

“This location could be ideal for the expansion of our current campus,” said Tom Sullivan, COO and spokesperson for Shamrock, in a release. “Shamrock has its roots here in this community.”

The company already owns two office towers on the northwest corner of 95th and Metcalf. Those towers used to house Sprint employees in the 1980s.

The site also includes the Red Lobster and Olive Garden restaurants, though those two locations were not part of the sale.

Overland Park officials have been redeveloping the southeast corner of 95th and Metcalf with a Lowe’s Home Improvement store where portions of the old Metcalf South Mall stood until recently.
