KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Construction crews in Overland Park struck a gas main shortly before 8:20 a.m. Tuesday morning near W. 104th Street and Antioch Road.

The Overland Park Police Department stated that Antioch was shut down in both directions between 103rd Street and Interstate 435 while crews initially responded to the scene.

Barricades were requested as crews worked to shut off the gas main. Around 10 a.m., the intersection of W. 103rd Street and Antioch Road was completely closed.

At 12:40 p.m., the Overland Park Fire Department shared that a gas leak was stopped, but Antioch would remain closed between 103rd and 106th streets for several more hours while Kansas Gas Service makes repairs.

The department said 103rd Street would soon reopen.

Kansas Gas Service shared that no natural gas service was lost due to the incident.

"We’d like to remind everyone to call 811 or submit a line locate request at Kansas811.com [kansas811.com] at least two full working days before any digging project – large or small," Kansas Gas Service shared in a statement.
