KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Last week, developers for a proposed Loews Convention Hotel were given the green light to move forward with their plan. This week, three council members say the process is not transparent.
The project will change the skyline of downtown, as Loews hopes to build an upscale hotel.
Council members Loar, Shields and Hall say this process is anything but transparent, saying they've only seen one sheet of information for this $325 million plan.
Tuesday, the council members are asking for the actual documents that show the guaranteed maximum cost for the project.
The city is committing $35 million to the project and Loews is dedicating $58 million.
The money coming from the city will be from a tax.
Alexander Tisch is the Executive Vice President of Loews. He says bringing a convention hotel to Kansas City will create 2,000 jobs.
While the project will create jobs, the city council women behind the push for more information say they have concerns about schools, libraries and other taxing jurisdictions.
One thing this group does not want to do is re-litigate the hotel deal. They say they just want more information.
The council members will have a press conference at 1 p.m. at City Hall.
